Tell the Bees

about

When the head of the household dies, someone has to tell the bees. In old European folklore, honey bees were seen as messengers going between the worlds of the living and the dead. The only way for humans to speak to bees is through song.

Step through the garden,
knock on the walls of your home
Quietly sing to you
something that you need to know

you may not have met him
don’t let that be cause for regret
little bee will you listen
don’t leave me in my distress

tell the bees
tell the bees

You serve me in summer
in winter i read by your light
all sweetness and sorrow
my fate is a gift from the hive

a message to carry
from this poor world into the next
llittle bee will you listen
don’t leave me in my distress

Tell the bees
tell the bees
the lord is dead
tell the bees
tell the bees
the lord is dead

go tell the meadows
the flowers are dying to know
these songs and these stories
are all that we have left to show

and that life must go on
i am terrified i must confess
little bee will you listen
don’t leave me in my distress

Tell the bees
tell the bees
tell the bees
tell the bees
